Ralph Lauren Denim, Fall 2011
“I don’t design clothes, I design dreams.”
– Ralph Lauren
Designer, 2008 – 2011. Internship 2007 – 2008.
Upon moving to New York, I was hired for my first internship with the Ralph Lauren Purple Label design team. The office was on 60th Street and Madison Avenue, on the top floor of a building overlooking Central Park –– it was awe-inspiring. The experience developed my interest in tailoring and taught me to tell a story through design. I worked alongside Italian tailors, fitting garments and training my eye for proportion. My duties were to illustrate collection looks, research vintage clothing, create concept rigs, and prepare for fabric presentations.
Following the internship, I was hired as a designer on the denim design team. Our team worked across multiple brands and several categories within RL to create both vintage-inspired designs, as well as innovative designs, develop fabric, trim, experimental washing, tech specs, and traveled to work with our global factories. I managed a team and collaborated with the merchant, sales, and production teams to hit the RL aesthetic, price points and delivery dates.
